Amir Chaghmagh Complex and the Nakhl

One place you are sure to come across in Yazd is the Amir Chaghmagh Complex at the end of the bazaar, next to the Zurkhaneh, and across from the Water Museum. There is a caravanserai, water reserve, bazaar, and bathhouse in the complex.

In front of the mosque (which from what I understand is just used for religious ceremonies) is a wooden structure called Nakhl which is symbolic of Imam Hossein's (the third Imam) coffin. During Ashura, it's covered in a black cloth and carried by men who run around the area 3 times (3 times because they found Imam Hossein's body in Karbala, Iraq after three days.)
