Lyrics and Translation of Gom Andar Gom by Kamakan

Updated: 14 November 2018

I first stumbled upon Mehdi Saki and Kamakan randomly during a search for something else. After hearing their live version of Labkhand (Smile), I felt like I had been living under a rock. I immediately bought their album, and it’s one of my favorites thanks to its musical influences and flavor from the southern Iranian/Arab culture set to the lyrics of poems by Rumi, Ebrahim Monsefi, folk musicians, and, in the case of this song, Hossein Monzavi. Here are the lyrics and English translation of Kamakan’s Gom Andar Gom. (And be sure to check out the song Shekar (Sugar), another favorite off the album)

marâ âtash sedâ kon tâ besuzânam sarâ pâyat / call me fire so that I burn you head to foot

marâ bârân salâ deh tâ bebâram bar atash hâyat / salute me as rain so that I pour on your thirst

marâ anduh beshnâs o komak kon tâ biyâmizam / recognize me as sorrow and help me blend

be sâne sarneveshtam bâ seresht-e cheshm-e zibâyat / my fate with the nature of your beautiful eyes

marâ rudi bedân o yâri-am kon tâ darâvizam / know me as a river and help me hang

be shogh-e jazbevârat tâ foru rizam be daryâyat / in the zeal of your charm to pour into your sea

komak kon yek shabah bâsham meh-âlud o gom andar gom / help me be a phantom, hazy and obscure

gom andar gom, gom andar gom / obscure, obscure

kenâr-e sâyeye ghandil-hâ dar ghâr-e royâyat / next to the shadows of icicles in the cave of your dreams

marâ âtash sedâ kon tâ besuzânam sarâ pâyat / call me fire so that I burn you head to foot

khiyâli, va’adeyi, vahmi, omidi, mojdeyi, yâdi / a vision, a promise, a delusion, hope, good news, a memory

be har nâmi ke khosh dâri to bâram deh be donyâyat / call me whatever you like to let me in your world

marâ âtash sedâ kon tâ besuzânam sarâ pâyat / call me fire so that I burn you head to foot

marâ bâran salâ deh tâ bebâram bar atash hâyat / salute me as rain so that I pour on your thirst

(x2)

marâ ân nimeye digar bedân, ân ruh-e sargardân / know me as the other half, the wandering soul

ke kâmel mishavad bâ nimeye khod ruh-e tanhâyat / who will be complete with its other half, your lonely soul

marâ âtash sedâ kon tâ besuzânam sarâ pâyat / call me fire so that I burn you head to foot

marâ bâran salâ deh tâ bebâram bar atash hâyat / salute me as rain so that I pour on your thirst
